Wow.....that was my first thought after seeing Inglourious Basterds tonight with Shayne and Corissa. Quentin Tarantino proves once again that he can make a great film. I went into the film blind, not really knowing much about it except that it took place during World War II where the Nazis occupied France. Originality is so lacking today and it was so exhilarating to see such a creative film. All of Tarantino's trademarks (humor, violence, and decent soundtrack)are present. Brad Pitt delivers a stellar performance as the leader of the Basterds, a crew of Jewish American soldiers who go into enemy territory to kill as many Nazis as possible. I think my favorite part was Pitt's Italian accent. ;) Their story intertwines with Shosanna (Mélanie Laurent), the only survivor of a Jewish family killed by the Jew Hunter, who plots her own revenge on the Nazis. Neither Shosanna or the Basterds are aware they have the same goals at the end of the film. The plot of the film surrounds the fact that the entire top leadership of Nazi Germany, namely Hitler, Goering, Goebbels and Bormann attend a film premiere in Paris celebrating the exploits of a German sniper. If you can put aside the history books, you can enjoy this different version of history through the creative eyes of Tarantino.
