Shamrock shake #2

Shamrock shake #2, originally uploaded by drwhogrl.

Today I wasn't really planning on getting a Shamrock Shake but my roommate was going to McDonald's and knew he wouldn't like having to order it I asked nicely if he could get me one. His response was "in drive thru. Will do." Then I got another response of "They asked if it was for "that Wendy girl" You've got a rep." I probably should have specified the size because I think he got me a large. I may need a nap after this.

Today my team at work volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor. I've done it before in the past. We make dinner for the families that are staying there that are in the area because a family member is at Eastern Maine Medical Center. We made lasagna, meatballs with salad and cheesecake. While waiting for the food to cook, we were all on our cell phones. Can you tell we all work for a cell phone company?

Potluck

I tried to not eat too much at the potluck. I swear there was at least 8 different varieties of meatballs. Never seen so many crockpots. I made the mistake of grabbing and drinking a soda, Fresca black cherry citrus. :-/ After I had opened it I remembered that I was trying to stay away from drinking soda, but I didn't want to be wasteful. I actually didn't eat that much for dessert. I am soooo full now....I probably won't eat dinner.
I did end up sleeping in again. :( But when I did finally drag myself out of bed I did do my workout so that was a good way to wake up. I was so busy running around I didn't eat breakfast so I guess eating the above plate wasn't too bad for me.

Cupcakes keep following me...

Trying to be healthy in an office atmosphere is not easy. I was given the above cupcake by the associate director of the call center and couldn't say no. I have a hard time turning down free stuff, especially sweets. I was also given a chicken parm sandwich my coworker didn't want. Argh, so frustrated, but at least I can think I did actually work out this morning and have been good the rest of the night. I have the Fage Greek yogurt for my snack tonight with honey. I consider this yogurt a treat since its a little bit on the pricey side but so very tasty. Also I am happy to report Day 2 without soda is going well. I'm on my second can of seltzer and resisted the urge to get a Diet Pepsi out of the vending machine. I didn't get to try out the gizmo to make seltzer at home, but maybe on Friday. Tomorrow I have to prepare something for the potluck at work and we are also cooking a dinner at the Ronald McDonald house.
Busy Busy.. I'm glad I did have a calm moment when I got to watch Venture Bros Season 4 Vol 1 this morning before work. I didn't realize the new season had come out yet. Go Team Venture!

I slept in again, but at least today I did work out. I whipped up a smoothie after my work out with strawberry, cherry, banana, clemetines etc.

Today

Today was rough for me...I didn't want to get out of bed. I barely slept as usual and was exhausted when I knew I needed to get up. The last few days I have been having trouble dragging myself out of bed. I worry that its because I have been feeling down, but I hope to get out of this funk soon. Already looking forward to the weekend when I can see my family. No workout today which I felt really guilty about. When I got to work everyone seemed really happy to see me which was nice. I got compared to a ninja because I am so quiet. I'll take that as a compliment. At my desk I found a t-shirt I had won at work for doing a crossword puzzle and sweets galore as I documented earlier on my blog. The last thing I wanted to do was eat sweets but my boss had saved some just for me. I didn't eat all of the cupcakes so I guess I should feel okay about that. For lunch before I went to work I had a bowl of kashi sunshine cereal with skim milk and a smoothie with frozen strawberries, blueberry pom juice, clementines, banana with flax seed and chocolate whey powder. I've developed a minor obsession with smoothies since realizing what my blender can handle. In the summer I hope to use my juicer more but for now its blender time. I failed at dinner though having a steak bomb that my coworker bought for me. At least I tried to keep what I ate during the day light. I did end up chewing on a cheddar bagel twist from Dunkin Donuts and drinking an ice coffee with skim milk and one sugar when I first got to work. Dunkin Donuts puts way too much sugar so I have been cutting back a lot. I barely notice the difference now. Proud to say today I didn't have any soda. I did drink two cans of plain seltzer water which I think is mainly what I have been craving. I like the bubbles. Tomorrow I am going to try the gizmo my Dad got me to change juice inside sparkling juice and probably water too. I feel like I have gained a few pounds from feeling unmotivated and down about certain personal things, but I am trying to turn things around. From going on walks on my days off I know I do enjoy moving so tomorrow I will try to do the 30 day shred workout that my friend Michelle recommended. I've always felt better after doing that workout. I normally post only pictures on here but I felt like sharing. I feel like I have been in limbo the last few weeks, but feel like I am slowly finding my way out and realizing not everyone is going to treat you like you don't matter.

Cupcakes

Over the weekend my boss went down to Connecticut and stopped and grabbed cupcakes from a local shop near her parents' house. I found two cupcakes on my desk this morning wrapped up for me. I don't think dieting is possible working here.

I saw this on SwissMiss and had to share it. Such great advice.

10 Lessons for young designers

1: Be authentic. The most powerful asset you have is your individuality, what makes you unique. It’s time to stop listening to others on what you should do.

2: Work harder than anyone else and you will always benefit from the effort.

3: Get off the computer and connect with real people and culture. Life is visceral.

4: Constantly improve your craft. Make things with your hands. Innovation in thinking is not enough.

5: Travel as much as you can. It is a humbling and inspiring experience to learn just how much you don’t know.

6: Being original is still king, especially in this tech-driven, group-grope world.

7: Try not to work for stupid people or you’ll soon become one of them.

8: Instinct and intuition are all-powerful. Learn to trust them.

9: The Golden Rule actually works. Do good.

10: If all else fails, No. 2 is the greatest competitive advantage of any career.

Dairy Queen mint shake

Dairy Queen mint shake, originally uploaded by drwhogrl.
So my friend Jess said that Dairy Queen had a comparable shake to the Shamrock Shake and I had to check it out. Yes it was decent and something I could get year round. I am still a fan of the Shamrock Shake though.

Bangor City Forest

It had been awhile but I finally got to go for a walk in the city forest. I was glad that I grabbed my LLBean stablizers because majority of the trails were covered in ice. I actually got stopped and asked what was on my feet because some people were struggling on the trails. I didn't fall down once.
